Meet Jarred Spellman ’24
Jarred Spellman ’24
Political Science Pre-Law
Jarred had always been intrigued by Seton Hill University after visiting campus on multiple occasions while his older brother was a student. When applying for colleges, Jarred had his mind set on pursuing an education in biology or pharmaceuticals. Ultimately, he chose Seton Hill for the small campus atmosphere and its close proximity to home.
Like many first-year students, Jarred was challenged by the transition to college and being away from home for the first time in life. However, he says the staff at Seton Hill, especially his Resident Assistants, helped the transition go smoothly. “Seton Hill’s small campus makes it easy to form friendships,” said Jarred. “You don’t feel separated from home life because at Seton Hill, you belong to a family.”
Jarred was also challenged by his academics during his first year. “The fall semester during my freshman year was rough as I was struggling with my science courses, and I had been dealing with some health issues,” said Jarred. “I knew I needed to make or change. I liked the program, but it didn’t seem like the right fit for me.”
After some self-reflection, and support from Seton Hill faculty and Jarred’s family members, Jarred decided to change his major to political science pre-law. “The faculty at Seton Hill, especially my advisor in the biology program, were very supportive of my decision. I explained to them how much I was struggling and they helped me to look at the different options available on campus,” said Jarred.
Jarred says he saw an incredible improvement in his attitude and grades from the fall to spring semester. “Changing my major was the best decision I could have made,” said Jarred. “I really enjoy the political science program because I think it aligns more with my interests.”
Jarred’s goal is to graduate from Seton Hill and continue his education by pursuing law school. “I believe with the resources available in Seton Hill’s program, I will accomplish this goal,” said Jarred. “I have vast opportunities to talk to people in this profession and learn more about my future career. Seton Hill has the means to point me in the right direction.”
