Meet Sarah Gilliam '24
Sarah Gilliam first learned about Seton Hill because of the track and field program. “When I had my first visit to campus, I immediately fell in love with the university,” said Sarah. “Having the school up on the Hill, overlooking parts of Greensburg, was a view that I would never forget. I was greeted with some of the friendliest people I had ever met in the Welcome Center and Admissions Offices. I could already tell that the people on campus formed a community that I wanted to be part of. After learning about the stellar academics, supportive alumni relationships, and the opportunity to earn my master's degree in business within 5 years through the FastForward program, I knew that this was where I wanted to attend college.”
As a student-athlete, Sarah must find a balance between her academic and athletic commitments - and she has done so as a place finisher in two PSAC Track and Field Championships and a Dean’s List honoree every semester. Sarah is currently a thrower on the track and field team at Seton Hill. Her events are shot put, discus, hammer, and weight. “I think that sometimes it is hard to take a step back and reflect, but I do feel proud of things that I have accomplished at Seton Hill. Athletically, I am most proud of my top 8 finishes in shot put, hammer, and weight at the indoor and outdoor PSAC Championships over these past two years,” said Sarah. “On the other hand, academically, I am most proud of being able to be on the Dean's List every semester that I have been at Seton Hill while balancing all my other activities and life in general.”
Sarah also finds time to be active on campus in a variety of ways. She is a member of the Finance Club and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). She is an Honors Student Mentor and has been a Student Representative when meeting with the university's Board of Trustees. Sarah says all of these activities have had quite the impact on her experience at Seton Hill. “I have been able to connect with so many different people from all over the country and the world,” said Sarah. “I have been able to have conversations and discussions with people that I probably would never have had the opportunity to if I wouldn't have come here.”
Sarah’s goal is to own her own business one day and help others along the way. Sarah credits the amazing opportunities she has had to the people she has met in her life, and she would love to be able to do the same for others. “Because of the various programs that are offered here at the university, I have been able to expand my studies from solely business to include information management, Spanish, and entrepreneurship,” said Sarah. Sarah is still learning and discovering the opportunities available to her after graduation. “Even though I do not know exactly what I want to do as a career, I know that through Seton Hill's outstanding academics I am receiving such a quality education that I will be more than able to find something that I am passionate about.”
